ASUU ATBU Joins Strike Over Delayed Salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi has withdrawn its services indefinitely due to the Federal Government's failure to pay June salaries on time.

The union announced the commencement of "Active Non-Compliance" in response to the delayed payments.

The lecturers are demanding prompt payment of salaries and equal treatment, as other government organizations are paid on time while university lecturers are left out. The union has emphasized that this action is not a strike, but rather a refusal to perform primary academic duties while still present on campus.

The ASUU ATBU chairperson stated that the union will continue the action until salaries are paid, and lecturers will return to work immediately once payments are made. The delayed payments have been described as punitive, with some suggesting that the government is targeting university lecturers for withdrawing from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
