ASUU Awards Scholarships to Indigent SAZU Students
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU) Bauchi has awarded scholarships to three indigent students of the institution. The awards were presented to the recipients on Thursday at the Gadau Campus of the University.
The beneficiaries of the scholarship are Khadija Usman, a 300-level student from the Pharmacy Department; Zubairu Adamu Hassan, a 300-level student of Library and Information Science; and Abubakar Ibrahim, a 400-level Mathematics student. Each of the students received N100,000.
The Chairperson of ASUU SAZU, Comrade Auwal Hussain, said the initiative was a product of sacrifice and compassion, explaining that the funds came directly from the hard-earned salaries of academic staff. He urged the students to make judicious use of the scholarship and serve as a beacon of hope to others.
The President of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University, Comrade Sani Aliyu, commended the gesture, describing it as both "inspiring and commendable." He added that the scholarship would motivate other students and that the SRC would emulate this kind of support system.
The scholarship award is seen as a bold reminder of the role of unions in advocating for staff welfare and uplifting the student community. The gesture is expected to have a positive impact on the students and the university community.
