ASUU Donates Relief Materials to 250 IDPs in Sokoto

In a display of goodwill, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sokoto State chapter, has provided relief materials to 250 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sokoto.During the presentation of the relief items, which included rice, beans, vegetable oil, salt, seasoning, and water, Professor Nurudeen Almustapha, the chairman of the ASUU chapter, expressed that this act of charity is part of ASUU's commitment to assisting the less privileged.

This initiative is part of ASUU's broader program to support those in need, with a focus on the Northwest and North Central regions. The union has already carried out similar initiatives in Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi States.

To fund these charitable activities, ASUU members contribute a minimum of 2,000 naira every six months, resulting in a total budget of fifty million naira for this exercise in the North Central and North West regions. Other zones have also received similar support.

The chairman took the opportunity to call on the government at all levels to provide adequate security, ensuring that IDPs across the country can safely return to their homes.

He further mentioned that ASUU has received intellectual guidance from the federal government on addressing insecurity in the country to enable those in IDP camps to return home.

Nasiru Garba Kalambina, the Special Adviser to the Sokoto State Governor on State Emergency Management Authority (SEMA), reassured that the current administration is dedicated to facilitating the swift return of IDPs to their homes. He indicated that SEMA, on behalf of the state government, will soon provide palliatives to the people living in the IDP camp. The governor has been actively participating in high-level security meetings to bring about lasting peace to all troubled parts of the state.

Beneficiaries of the relief materials expressed their appreciation to ASUU for the generous gesture and called on other organizations and individuals in society to extend their support to those living in IDP camps.
