Women lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, under the leadership of Professor Khadijat Musa Bello, Head of the Department of Animal Production, have launched the Rural-Urban Women Green Initiative (RUWGI) to drive community development.
The initiative aims to empower women in surrounding rural and urban areas by promoting sustainable agricultural practices and environmental conservation.
RUWGI focuses on combating desertification through tree planting and educating women about sustainable agriculture. The program equips local women with the skills to enhance their livelihoods by implementing environmentally-friendly practices. Continuous support and mentoring are provided by the lecturers to ensure the initiative's success.
This effort highlights the role of education and collaboration in fostering environmental sustainability and women’s empowerment in local communities. Through RUWGI, the women lecturers of ATBU are making a lasting impact on both the environment and the lives of the women they serve.
