In a tragic incident in Katsina State, bandits have killed Mallam Garba Gardi Funtua after he paid a N2 million ransom for the release of his daughter. The kidnapping occurred last month when his daughter, a student at Federal University Dutsin-Ma, was abducted from the campus.

Following the payment of the ransom, the bandits released his daughter but subsequently held Garba captive. Over an 18-day period, they demanded an additional N5 million from his family.

The family received the devastating news of Garba's death on Sunday, August 4, revealing he had been killed 17 days prior. The announcement was made by his son, Funtua, in a Facebook post: "It is with total submission to the will of Allah (SWT) that I announce the death of my father Alh. Abubakar Garba Gardi Funtua. He was killed by the bandits that kidnapped my sister last month. Jana'iza holds tomorrow 5/08/2024 @ his residence of Gangaren Tasaulawa Funtua by 9am inshaAllah. Please pray for his soul."

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the increasing threats posed by banditry and kidnapping.
