Bauchi State Government Evacuates 64 UNIJOS Students Following Plateau Violence

The Bauchi State Government successfully evacuated 64 students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) back to the state on Friday, April 3, 2026. The operation was launched following a recent wave of violence in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, Plateau State, which reportedly claimed approximately 27 to 28 lives.

The Commissioner for Higher Education and Regional Integration, Hadiza Abdulkadir Kango, confirmed that the students arrived safely at the Government House in Bauchi in the early hours of Friday. The evacuation followed a distress call from Mohammed Suleiman, President of the National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS), who alerted authorities that students were trapped in their hostels due to the heightening security crisis.
