Bayero University 300-level Sociology Student Killed by Phone Snatchers

A 300-level Sociology student of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Umar Abdullahi Hafizi, has tragically lost his life to phone snatchers in Dorayi Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. when suspected thieves stabbed Umar and fled with his phone. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The university management expressed deep sadness over the incident, describing Umar's death as "a painful loss to the University community". In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, assured that BUK is working closely with security agencies to ensure those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice.

Umar's body was taken to his hometown in Zaria, Kaduna State, where he was buried according to Islamic rites. The university has urged students to remain alert and asked members of the public to assist with any information that could help the investigation.

This incident highlights the growing concern over phone snatching in Kano, with many residents living in fear of these violent attacks. The Kano State Police Command has previously arrested over 200 suspected thugs and phone snatchers, but the problem persists.

The university and security agencies are urging the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Parents are also being advised to monitor their children's activities and report any involvement in criminal behavior.
