The Borno State branch of the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN) paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, on Thursday, 13th November 2025, at his office.

During the visit, Professor Mele commended IMAN for its philanthropic and community service initiatives across the state’s healthcare sector. He urged the Association to extend its advocacy and outreach programs to include university students, emphasizing that community service remains a core mandate of the University. The Vice-Chancellor also lauded IMAN’s effort in establishing the IMAN Hospital, now at an advanced stage of construction, and called on philanthropists, government, and private organizations to support its completion.
Professor Mohammed Modu Gofama Mustapha, President of IMAN Borno State, highlighted the Association’s founding in the early 1990s to promote Islamic values among Muslim healthcare professionals, provide humanitarian services, and contribute to community development. He briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the hospital project, noting that approximately 60 percent of the construction has been completed, while financial constraints continue to slow progress.

The visit’s highlight included the presentation of the hospital’s construction plan and progress report by Barrister Abdulwahab Aliyu, Chairman of the IMAN Hospital Committee, underscoring the ongoing commitment to improving healthcare access and services in the region.
