Borno State Governor Pledges to Sponsor More Students to Study Medicine

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to sponsoring more Borno indigenes to study medicine and allied health courses at the Federal University of Health Sciences (FUHSA), Azare, Bauchi State.

 

Governor Zulum made this pledge during a courtesy visit by the Governing Council of the University, led by its Pro-Chancellor, Rt. Hon. Samuel Babatunde Adejare. The governor emphasized the need to produce more medical professionals, particularly in the North East region, where there is a severe shortage of healthcare personnel.

"We require more admission slots for our indigenes in medicine, radiography, nursing, and other related courses. If there are states not utilizing their quotas, we are ready to take them—just contact us," Zulum stated.

 

The governor also advised the Vice-Chancellor to focus on strengthening existing programmes before expanding into new courses, ensuring that FUHSA continues to produce highly qualified medical professionals.

In recognition of Governor Zulum's support, the university has named a laboratory after him. The "Babagana Zulum Phantom Laboratory" was established with a N50 million donation from the governor, which was used to procure state-of-the-art laboratory equipment for the Faculty of Dentistry.

 

The Pro-Chancellor, Rt. Hon. Samuel Babatunde Adejare, commended Governor Zulum for his continuous support, including the construction of two blocks of six apartments each within the University Staff Quarters. The university has also announced the approval of 13 additional courses by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
