BUK Vice-Chancellor Pledges Infrastructure Upgrade and Professional Development for Coaches
The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, has reaffirmed the importance of sports as a vital tool for development and restated the University Management’s commitment to upgrading sporting facilities across the campus.
Professor Musa made this known while receiving a delegation of university coaches, led by the Director of Sports, Professor Rabiu Mohammed, on Wednesday, 31st December 2025. He described sports as a critical component of holistic university development and noted that, beyond promoting health and unity, sports has increasingly become a viable avenue for revenue generation.
As a sports-loving Vice-Chancellor, Professor Musa assured the delegation that his administration would prioritise the improvement of sports infrastructure and programmes. He commended the coaches and the Directorate of Sports for their outstanding performance at the recently concluded Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games held at the University of Jos, where BUK recorded impressive medal wins.
The Vice-Chancellor also pledged to sponsor university coaches to attend seminars, workshops, and professional coaching courses as part of efforts to strengthen capacity building and enhance performance.
In a related development, Professor Musa congratulated the Directorate of Sports and the Volleyball Coach, Usman Abdallah, for producing five BUK players who participated in the National Volleyball Federation Championship.
Speaking on behalf of the coaches, the Taekwondo Coach, Ibrahim Yahuza, appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to further upgrade the University’s sporting facilities and sustain the sponsorship of coaches for professional training programmes. He praised the University for its world-class taekwondo and judo mats, noting that such facilities are rare in Nigeria.
Earlier, the Director of Sports, Professor Rabiu Mohammed, reaffirmed the Directorate’s continued support and commitment to the University Management in advancing sports development at Bayero University, Kano.
