In a remarkable display of community support, Catholic priests from the Enugu Diocese have donated a substantial sum of N50 million to the Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) Teaching Hospital. The generous donation, announced during their Unum Presbyterium meeting at the university's College of Medicine, is intended to expedite ongoing transformational projects within the hospital.

The Unum Presbyterium meetings, conducted three times a year, serve as a platform for priests in the diocese to stay informed about local and global Church affairs. During the recent meeting, the more than 450 priests in attendance expressed their enthusiasm for the rapid transformation occurring at the university's main campus.

GOUNI, owned by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, received permission in 2021 to take over Ntasi Obi Hospital, one of the missionary hospitals owned by the Church. This facility, now serving as the university's teaching hospital, has become a crucial training center for medical sciences students.

Aside from the financial contribution, several priests also expressed their interest in offering scholarships to indigent students at the university, further emphasizing the community's commitment to education.

The Auxiliary Bishop of the diocese, Most Rev. Ernest Obodo, encouraged priests to consider taking up specific projects within the university during the meeting. Most Rev. Callistus Onaga, the Bishop of the diocese, commended the priests for their solidarity and dedication to spreading the gospel and supporting educational programs.
