In a significant step towards enhancing global connections, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, FNIPR, engaged in discussions with the Portuguese Ambassador to Nigeria, HE Paulo Martins Santos, during her visit to the Embassy of Portugal in Abuja on Monday, April 15, 2024.

Prof. Omenugha, speaking exclusively to COOUNewS, highlighted the strategic importance of her visit in alignment with COOU's commitment to bolstering its visibility, one of the core elements of its "3Vs strategic policy" focusing on values, viability, and visibility.

"We are here with HE Santos to present our institution as a prospective partner for collaborations, particularly in the domain of language studies and beyond. Our vision includes establishing an Institute of Language Studies to leverage extensive resources through exchange programs, recognizing the pivotal role of language in today's global landscape," stated Prof. Omenugha.

Acknowledging the evolving global landscape, Prof. Omenugha emphasized the significance of promoting Nigerian local languages internationally. She expressed satisfaction with HE Santos's receptiveness to their proposals, anticipating further discussions and potentially welcoming him to COOU to witness firsthand the opportunities available.

"We aspire to reshape our university ecosystem, reducing reliance on state government subventions by delivering value-based education through practical programs and certifications that empower our students," she added.

Earlier in the day, the Acting Chancellor also pursued similar collaborations at Nile University, Abuja, underscoring COOU's commitment to deepening its internationalization agenda.

Accompanying Prof. Omenugha on this diplomatic mission were Dr. K'tso Nghargbu, Director of Linkages and International Collaborations at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and Dr. Nath Udezo, Acting Bursar of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.
