Enugu's Coal City University Responds to Scandal Involving Head of Nursing Department
The management of Coal City University, Enugu, has officially addressed the recent allegations of certificate forgery against Alphonsus Mba, the Head of the Nursing Department. Reports surfaced that Mr. Mba allegedly used his brother-in-law's WASSCE certificate to secure a position at the School of Post Basic Psychiatry in Enugu.
Mr. Mba, who retired from the psychiatric school and subsequently joined Coal City University, was arrested in October over the forgery allegations and is currently under investigation, being detained at the Zone 13 Police Headquarters in Ukpo, Anambra State.

The Vice-Chancellor of Coal City University, Prof. Afam Icha-Ituma, confirmed the situation during a press briefing on Tuesday. He revealed that the university had received a security report about Mr. Mba facing identity fraud allegations just four days after his hiring. To safeguard the institution's reputation, Mr. Mba was suspended pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

Prof. Icha-Ituma stated that the university awaits the investigation's results to determine the appropriate course of action regarding Mr. Mba's status.
In other news, the university is gearing up for its maiden combined convocation ceremonies, celebrating the graduation of 502 students between 2020 and 2023. Among them, 33 students will be awarded first-class degrees, while others will receive second class upper and lower division, as well as third class distinctions.

The Vice-Chancellor also announced the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on five distinguished Nigerians. Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, entrepreneur Patricia Nwobodo, technology expert Kingsley Eze, entrepreneur Ikenna Okafor, and Jude Adani will receive honorary doctorates for their extraordinary contributions to national development. Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, is set to deliver the convocation lecture titled, "Deciphering the moral ambiguity of local aphorisms that justify the erosion of moral values of young people."
The ceremonies mark a significant milestone for Coal City University, which, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, is holding its first convocation ceremony in its seven years of existence.
