Enugu State Vows Strong Backing for Naval Base, School, Hospital

In a significant move towards enhancing security and infrastructure, the Enugu State government has pledged its full support to the Nigerian Navy's plans for establishing a naval operational base, hospital, and welfare school within the state. The announcement came during a meeting between the state governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, and the Naval Committee on the Establishment of Naval Base at Ogurugu Inland Water.

Governor Mbah expressed his administration's commitment to partnering with the federal government to ensure lasting peace and security in the state. He commended the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, for promptly initiating the establishment process. The governor emphasized the strategic importance of these facilities, stating that they would not only benefit the state but also contribute to reinforcing peace and security in the region.

Highlighting the achievements of his administration in the security sector over the past three months, Governor Mbah reiterated his commitment to building on these successes. Rear Admiral Chijioke Onyemaobi, leading the Naval Committee, expressed gratitude for the support received from the Enugu State government. He explained that the establishment of a naval operational base in the state would enhance internal security, boost investor confidence, and stimulate commercial activities.

The committee leader updated Governor Mbah on their findings at the proposed sites, confirming the adequacy of the inland water and abandoned aerodrome facilities at Ogurugu for the naval base. He also reported that the proposed site for the Nigerian Navy Welfare School at Umuopu was deemed suitable for the project.

Rear Admiral Onyemaobi sought the continued support of the state government, emphasizing the Chief of the Naval Staff's eagerness for a swift mobilization of materials to commence the construction work.
