Governor Peter Mbah Unveils Ambitious Reforms to Revitalize Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu

In a bid to rejuvenate the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu, Governor Peter Mbah has pledged sweeping reforms to restore the institution's lost glory. The announcement came during the inauguration of the Committee for the Implementation of the Report of Enquiry into the Accounts, Management Practices, and Staff Conduct of IMT, Enugu at the Government House on Monday.
Background:
Governor Mbah had previously inaugurated an 8-man Committee of inquiry on the account and management practices of IMT on August 21. The committee's purpose was to investigate the state of affairs in IMT and propose measures for improvement.

Restoring Prestige:
During the inauguration of the Committee, Governor Mbah, representing the governor, highlighted IMT's initial model fashioned after the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA. However, he acknowledged that the institution had deviated from its original path and expressed his determination to restore its past glory.
Committee's Mandate:
The terms of reference for the committee include evaluating and amending the legal and policy framework governing IMT's Business Committee functions, eliminating unauthorized charges on students, revising fee structures, and standardizing staff appointments. The committee is also tasked with enhancing revenue generation, addressing financial demands on students, and implementing improvements in areas such as staff employment, admissions, procurement, and library facilities.
Committee Composition:
The six-man panel, headed by Prof. Ed Nwobodo, includes representation from various sectors, including the Ministry of Education and Civil Society Organizations. Governor Mbah emphasized the importance of cooperation between the committee and IMT's management for the effective implementation of the proposed reforms.
Government Directives:
Governor Mbah announced directives aimed at discontinuing the collection of revenue through third parties, sale of handouts, and undue pressure on students through levies and fees. Employment without strict adherence to meritocracy was also flagged as unacceptable.

Prof. Ed Nwobodo, the Committee Chairman, assured the government of the committee's commitment to deliver on its mandate with integrity and periodic reporting.
