Commissioner of Education Visits Borno State University, Commends Standard of Teaching and Learning

Borno State University received a special visit from the Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe. During his visit, he commended the university's management staff for their commitment to maintaining high standards in teaching and learning.

Engineer Wakilbe expressed his satisfaction with the dedication displayed by both management and staff members and their ability to keep students engaged. He encouraged the university to continue its efforts in this regard.

Additionally, the Commissioner discussed the merger of Borno State University with Kashim Ibrahim College of Education, which has now become an Institute of Education under the university's jurisdiction. He encouraged the university's management to establish procedures for the full takeover, including exams and record-keeping, to ensure proper documentation and security.

Engineer Wakilbe pledged his full support and cooperation in addressing various issues raised during the visit. These issues included the university's fencing, plans for its first convocation ceremony scheduled for early next year, and the proposal to raise the retirement age of non-academic staff to 65, which he acknowledged had implications.

The Vice-Chancellor of Borno State University, Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe, provided insights into the university's establishment and development over the past four years. He highlighted successful collaborations with various organizations, such as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, TETFUND, NNPC, and NEDC, resulting in significant infrastructure improvements on campus.

Professor Sandabe proudly announced that the university had received full accreditation for 28 programs out of 30, with the remaining two securing interim accreditation. He expressed deep appreciation for Governor Babagana Umara Zulum's unwavering support.

The Commissioner's visit provided an opportunity for him to interact with students, and he assured them that he would address their challenges, including transportation issues during the evening.
