Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has highlighted major achievements recorded under the administration of its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, during a Mid-Term Media Briefing marking the second year of her tenure as the university's fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The event, held on July 2, 2026, brought together journalists from various media organisations, who were taken on a tour of completed and ongoing projects across the university before the formal briefing.
The tour, led by the university's Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, gave media practitioners an opportunity to inspect several infrastructure and environmental projects, including the university's artificial lake, the Golden Gate, the newly constructed entrance gate and walkways, the COOU Souvenir Shop, students' hostels, the ongoing COOU Bakery project and various environmental beautification initiatives across the campus.
The visiting journalists commended the university for its improved infrastructure, clean environment and the overall transformation of the campus.
Following the inspection, the journalists met with the Vice-Chancellor at the Conference Room, where she appreciated them for taking the time to assess the university's progress.
Also present at the briefing were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Environmental Sustainability), Prof. Anselem Nweke; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Obiora Ejiofor; and the Acting University Librarian, Dr. Uche Enweani.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Omenugha said her administration has remained focused on implementing policies and initiatives aimed at transforming the institution.
She highlighted the university's "Pick It" campaign, a cleanliness advocacy initiative designed to promote environmental responsibility among staff and students.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed her commitment to making COOU the cleanest university in Nigeria, stressing that cleanliness, orderliness and environmental sustainability remain central to the institution's development agenda.
She also called on journalists to uphold the ethics of responsible journalism by ensuring accuracy, balance and professionalism in their reports.
Prof. Omenugha urged media practitioners to verify information before publication and continue showcasing the university's achievements and positive contributions to the wider public.
The briefing featured an interactive question-and-answer session during which the Vice-Chancellor responded to issues raised by journalists and reiterated her administration's commitment to transparency, accountability and continuous engagement with stakeholders.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a group photograph.
The visiting journalists were later hosted at the COOU Kitchen, where they were served meals and freshly baked COOU Bread, giving them an opportunity to experience some of the university's enterprise-driven initiatives.

The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed her vision of positioning COOU as the "Now University and University of the Future," guided by the institution's philosophy of Values, Viability and Visibility.
