The Student Union Government (SUG) Attorney General of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) led a successful delegation to meet with His Royal Highness Prof. Sir Charles Maduegbuna Aniekweze JP KSC, the Royal Ruler of Awkuzu kingdom, addressing recent incidents of assault and battery committed by masquerades against COOU students.

The visit followed a series of complaints about masquerades harassing and assaulting students within the university communities. During the meeting, the SUG Attorney General presented these concerns to His Royal Highness, emphasizing the need for immediate action to protect students from violence.

In response, His Royal Highness Prof. Sir Charles Maduegbuna Aniekweze condemned the actions of the masquerades and made it clear that he disassociates himself from any form of violence or intimidation against students. The Royal Ruler announced a ban on masquerades in student areas and assured the SUG Attorney General that his office would take all necessary measures to enforce this ban.

To prevent further incidents, His Royal Highness stated that he would deploy a dedicated enforcement team, comprising the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG) and the Mkpala society monitoring team, to arrest any masquerade caught harassing or beating students. He also issued an apology to COOU students on behalf of the Awkuzu community for the misconduct they experienced.

This visit by the SUG Attorney General and the subsequent actions by the Royal Ruler mark a significant step toward ensuring the safety and security of COOU students in the Awkuzu kingdom and surrounding areas. The SUG Attorney General pledged to continue working with local authorities to uphold student rights and safety.
