COOU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Omenugha, Reopens UniOjukwu 106.1FM, Restores University Broadcast Voice

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) on Friday, 30th January 2026, officially reopened its campus radio station, UniOjukwu 106.1FM, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, FNIPR, at the Department of Mass Communication, Igbariam Campus.

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) on Friday, 30th January 2026, officially reopened its campus radio station, UniOjukwu 106.1FM, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, FNIPR, at the Department of Mass Communication, Igbariam Campus.

The reopening restores COOU’s broadcast voice, creating a platform for students, staff, and the surrounding community to engage, learn, and share information.

The revival of UniOjukwu 106.1FM reflects Prof. Omenugha’s longstanding commitment to media education and practical broadcasting. Drawing on her pioneering work, including her foundational role in establishing UNIZIK 94.1FM, she led the project with personal dedication, emphasizing the station’s role in nurturing ethical, innovative, and community-focused communicators.

In her opening remarks, Prof. Omenugha highlighted that the station serves not only the university but also the neighboring communities. She noted that cultural announcements, such as iri ji festivities, can be broadcast by local residents, strengthening COOU’s community ties and visibility.

Prof. Omenugha urged students to maximize the station as a learning platform, stating: “Wherever you find talent, nurture it. Keep the station in great use, and handle the equipment with care. This platform is an opportunity to grow, learn, and contribute meaningfully.” She also emphasized awareness campaigns to ensure the community is informed about the station’s programs and services.
