The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), known for fostering international academic cooperation, visited the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), on November 13, 2024, to explore potential areas of collaboration.

Led by the Director of its Regional Office in Accra, Ghana, Ms. Anna-Lena Leumer, the DAAD delegation was warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo. Prof. Adebayo delivered a presentation highlighting FUNAAB’s mission of teaching, research, and extension, emphasizing its commitment to partnerships and academic excellence.

Ms. Leumer commended FUNAAB for its impactful collaborations with German institutions, notably its scholars' engagement with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. She advised the University to strategically present itself to German audiences, leveraging opportunities to build trust and attract support.

Discussions during the visit focused on potential collaborations, including student and staff exchanges, fellowships, postdoctoral programs, and language studies. These areas aim to deepen academic and cultural ties between FUNAAB and German institutions.

Key stakeholders at the meeting included Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi; Registrar, Dr. Titus Adeniyi; German Consulate Desk Officer, Prof. Olufemi Ojo; and DAAD Programme Officer in Nigeria, Dr. Fortune Agbele. Representatives from various FUNAAB departments and centers, including the Directorate of Research, Innovations, and Partnerships (DRIP), the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS), and the Centre for Community-Based Farming Scheme (COBFAS), also participated.

The meeting marks a significant step toward fostering international academic partnerships, reinforcing FUNAAB’s global outreach and commitment to excellence in agriculture and education.
