Dorben Polytechnic Abuja has emerged as the top winner in the 2024 National Practical Competition, organized by the Committee of Deans of Engineering of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology (COMPODET). The competition, which took place during the 32nd Engineering Assembly held in Abuja, saw Dorben Polytechnic secure victories in both the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) categories.

The competition, renowned for its emphasis on practical innovation, drew participants from various polytechnics, monotechnics, and colleges of technology across Nigeria. The 2024 edition featured three categories: National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, and Most Innovative Staff.

Highlights of the Competition:

- National Diploma Category: Isaiah Isaiah Bassey from the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering at Dorben Polytechnic showcased his project titled "Design and Modelling of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Along Highways for Small-Scale Power Generation." Bassey's innovative project earned him the 1st position with a score of 81.5%, surpassing competitors from federal, state, and private institutions.

- Higher National Diploma Category: Ekong Samuel Daniel, a student from Computer Engineering Technology at Dorben Polytechnic, presented his project on "Design and Implementation of a Density-Based Car Traffic Control System." Daniel achieved the 1st position with a score of 78.7%, demonstrating exceptional innovation and technical skill.

- Most Innovative Staff: The award for the Most Innovative Staff went to a lecturer from Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, recognizing significant contributions to the field of engineering education.

This success is attributed to Elder Dr. A. B. Ekwere, Proprietor and Chairman of the Management Board, whose commitment to enhancing polytechnic education through state-of-the-art facilities and equipment has fostered an environment of innovation and academic excellence. Dr. Ekwere’s vision continues to shape the future of technical education, producing skilled professionals poised to make impactful contributions in their fields.
