DUFUTH Resident Doctors’ Executives Hold Familiarization Meeting with Hospital Management

The newly elected executives of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH) Chapter, have conducted a familiarization visit to the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Uzoma Agwu, reinforcing collaboration between the association and hospital management.

The newly elected executives of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH) Chapter, have conducted a familiarization visit to the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Uzoma Agwu, reinforcing collaboration between the association and hospital management.

The ARD leadership, elected on 20 December 2025, comprises Dr. Okechukwu Nwachukwu (President), Dr. Bernard Chibuzor (Vice President), Dr. Sarah Ogenyi (Secretary), Dr. Nwachukwu Ngozika (Assistant Secretary), Dr. Obasi Okorie (Treasurer), Dr. Ekanem Ubokudom (Financial Secretary), Dr. Ebisike-Peace Chizaram (PRO), and Dr. Ebisike Peace Chinonyerem (Ex-Officio 1).

During the visit, Prof. Agwu, a former President of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), reaffirmed DUFUTH management’s commitment to the welfare of doctors. She announced plans to commence residency training programs in accredited departments in 2026, regularize locum doctor appointments, settle arrears, and clear outstanding payments.

Prof. Agwu also directed improvements to the residents’ lounge, including the provision of curtains, television, and seating facilities, and encouraged residents to engage in online courses and research activities for professional development. She pledged grants to support research publications and urged the association to contribute meaningfully to the hospital’s growth.

In response, Dr. Nwachukwu expressed gratitude for the CMD’s warm reception, continuous support, and the hospital’s efforts in converting locum doctors to permanent status. He appealed for expansion of residency training to more departments, activation of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), and other welfare enhancements.

In recognition of her leadership and support, the ARD presented an Award of Excellence to Prof. Agwu.
