EBSU Student Dies in a Car Crash While Allegedly Being Chased by Police
A 23-yr-old, 300-level student of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), identified as Ayogu Evans, has died in a ghastly car crash, while Allegedly Being Chased by Police
The student from the department of Sociology was allegedly being chased by the police when he had the accident on Saturday afternoon, December 2, in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. He was driving alone when the tragic accident occurred, and he was then rushed to the hospital where he sadly passed on a few hours later.

“The people who brought him to the hospital confirmed that he was being chased by the police when he suddenly had an accident.
The police officers that were chasing him ran away after he had the accident, but they later came back to carry his wrecked car to their station at Liberation Estate,” a source said.
The Student Union President, Tobias Oshim has reacted over the death of the Student, Ayogu Evans, in a statement, Mr Oshim said after being informed, the SUG President conducted a site inspection and a thorough examination of the accident location.

He noted that peaceful student demonstration was organized to protest against recurring instances of police brutality in Ebonyi State.
According to the statement, the SUG President clarified that Evans was neither under the influence of alcohol nor drugs at the time of the accident.
It was established that the location of the accident was unusual for Evans, suggesting he was there due to the police chase.

An eyewitness, a tricycle rider involved in the accident, confirmed the police chase, involving three officers in a van.
The SUG expressed willingness to assist the police in the investigation to expedite the process. Various figures, including the SA to the Governor, Hon Nwafor Joshua, and Former NANS Zonal Coordinator, Comr. Olisa Nwuruku Alfred, were involved to ensure a thorough investigation and the pursuit of justice.
