The Edo State University, Ekpoma, and a group called Edo Consciousness are embroiled in a dispute over the tenure of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Emmanuel Aluyor. The contention arises from Prof Aluyor's continued stay in office after the expiration of his two-term, eight-year tenure on November 28, 2023.

Edo Consciousness, represented by its protem Chairman, Johnny Ogbode, issued a statement condemning Prof Aluyor's "sit-tight" stance, citing regulations by the National Universities Commission. The group vowed to resist the prolongation of Prof Aluyor's tenure.

Responding to the allegations, the registrar of the university, Habib Ekhalefo, asserted that only the Governing Council and the Visitor (the state governor) have the authority to determine the VC's tenure. He dismissed Edo Consciousness as "interlopers" meddling in matters beyond their purview.
