Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, has earned second place at the 2025 Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Global Challenge Bowl, showcasing its growing prominence on the international academic stage.

Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, has earned second place at the 2025 Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Global Challenge Bowl, showcasing its growing prominence on the international academic stage.

The grand finale, held on October 15, 2025, featured 19 top university teams from across the globe.

TEAM EKSU qualified for the global final after finishing as first runner-up in the Sub-Saharan Africa regional qualifier in June 2025. In the final contest, EKSU outperformed several international competitors, including the University of Colorado, which placed third, while the University of Lagos claimed the top prize.

Representing the university were Boluwatife Osasona, Lawrence Blessing, Olajioye Idowu, and Adeniyi Favour, whose exceptional teamwork and expertise impressed both judges and peers. Professor Adeyinka Aturamu, Head of the Department of Geology, lauded the students and their coordinator, Mr. Matthew Adeniran, for their dedication and professionalism.

Professor Lawrence Ademilua, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, recognized the critical support provided by EKSU’s management and Vice-Chancellor in enabling the team’s success. In a congratulatory meeting, Vice-Chancellor Professor Babatola Ayodele commended the students for elevating the university’s global reputation and pledged letters of commendation and special gifts to encourage continued excellence. He urged the team to remain ambitious and strive for top honors in future competitions.

Professor Ayodele also acknowledged the Chancellor, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, for his contributions to infrastructural and capacity development within the Department of Geology and the broader university community.
