Elizade University is poised to mark a significant milestone in its history with the celebration of its 8th and 9th combined convocation ceremonies. Vice-Chancellor Professor Kayode Ijadunola announced at a recent press briefing that the week-long festivities will culminate on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, with the conferment of first degrees, higher degrees, and honorary doctorates to distinguished individuals. The celebrations will conclude with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, November 10.
This year, Elizade University will award 484 bachelor's degrees and 74 graduate degrees across various disciplines, including the institution's inaugural doctoral and honorary doctoral degrees. Honorees include prominent figures such as Apostle Folorunso Alakija, Executive Vice-Chairman of Famfa Oil Ltd, and Chief Tunde Afolabi, MFR, CEO of Amni Petroleum Ltd, who are recognized for their philanthropic efforts and contributions to national development.
According to Professor Ijadunola, the graduating class comprises 228 undergraduates from the 2022/2023 academic session and 256 from the 2023/2024 session. Notably, 51 graduates are in the First-Class category, with additional awards distributed among Second-Class Upper, Third Class Lower, and Third-Class categories. The university will also confer 16 Postgraduate diplomas, 51 Master's degrees, 2 Master of Philosophy degrees, and 5 Doctor of Philosophy degrees.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized Elizade University's strides in research, innovation, and development, highlighting a 100% pass rate among Nursing and Law graduates in their professional qualifying examinations. He noted the university's successful partnerships with international institutions, including the prestigious Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship.
Professor Ijadunola attributed the university's success to the quality of training and resources provided by its Founder, the Board of Trustees, and dedicated staff. The institution has also seen infrastructure expansion, including a new hostel, a modern cafeteria, and a 280-seat Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre.
However, he acknowledged challenges such as rising energy costs and the “JAPA” trend, which he noted is a broader national issue affecting Nigeria's educational landscape. He called for greater inclusion in TETFUND and NELFUND schemes, advocating for support for private universities like Elizade, which play a crucial role in Nigeria's education system.
With a focus on community service and sustainable growth, Professor Ijadunola reaffirmed Elizade University's commitment to maintaining its status as a leader in academic excellence and societal contributions, solidifying its reputation as one of Nigeria's premier private institutions.
