Energy Essential for Socioeconomic Development, Says ABU Professor

Professor AbdelGaffar Amoka AbdelMalik of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, emphasized the crucial role of energy in socioeconomic development during his inaugural lecture on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. The lecture, titled "The Dirty Dielectrics: Imagine a World of Electricity Without It," took place at the University Assembly Hall, Main Campus, Samaru.

Prof. Amoka highlighted the increasing demand for power due to population growth and explained that electricity generation relies on safe insulation systems. He stressed that as power output rises, so does the electrical stress on these systems, which are vital for the reliability of electric power systems. Insulation failure, he noted, can lead to costly system breakdowns.
