Federal Polytechnic Bauchi Students Hit by Wave of Break-Ins and Robberies

A surge in break-ins and robberies has left students of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi (FPTB) on edge, with at least three incidents reported in January alone.

 

According to eyewitnesses and victims, unknown persons targeted students' lodges and the Student Union Government (SUG) secretariat, making off with valuable items such as laptops, phones, food, and personal belongings.

 

The first incident occurred on January 11, 2025, at Steel Lodge in the Gwallamaji community, where thieves stole 20 bags of rice, beans, oil, and other valuables.

On January 25, 2025, the SUG secretariat was hit, with thieves stealing wires and other items, leaving the premises scattered.

 

The most brazen attack occurred on January 28, 2025, when armed robbers stormed Grandview Lodge, breaking into 13-14 rooms and stealing phones, laptops, food items, and other valuables. A motorcycle was also stolen but later found abandoned outside the compound.

Victims described the traumatic experience, with one student, Goar Yikime John, recounting how he was attacked with a machete and left with injuries.

 

Another student, Nwobodo Joseph David, described how the robbers moved from room to room, taking whatever they wanted, including his phone, power bank, and shoes.

 

The incidents have raised concerns about student safety and security on and off campus. Authorities are urged to investigate the matter and take prompt action to prevent future occurrences.
