Federal Polytechnic Students, 30 Others Abducted on Abuja-Nasarawa Highway

It was reported that the kidnappers ambushed the vehicles carrying the travelers and took them into a nearby forest in the Uke region of Nasarawa State. Among the kidnapped was a student from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, who was on her way to visit her family in Abuja.

Federal Polytechnic Students, 30 Others Abducted on Abuja-Nasarawa Highway

Students from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, along with approximately 30 other individuals, were reportedly kidnapped by alleged criminals on the Abuja-Nasarawa Highway last Friday.

It was reported that the kidnappers ambushed the vehicles carrying the travelers and took them into a nearby forest in the Uke region of Nasarawa State. Among the kidnapped was a student from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, who was on her way to visit her family in Abuja.

A source stated, "On Friday, thirty people were kidnapped between Nasarawa and Abuja. The passengers were taken from two buses and led into the forest near a place called Uke in Nasarawa State. One of the kidnapped passengers is an HND student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, in Nasarawa State, who was travelling to Abuja to see her family.

It was also revealed that a bus driver who managed to escape the incident alerted the local police about the situation. “One of the bus drivers managed to escape the incident. Upon returning to the vehicle, he collected some items, including the phone of one of the kidnapped victims, and reported the incident to the Uke police station.”

In response to this, the Nasarawa Police Public Relations Officer, Rahman Nansel, confirmed that three victims had been rescued and a search and rescue operation was still underway. However, he disputed the claim that as many as 30 people had been kidnapped, but did not provide the exact number of victims. “The number (30) was exaggerated. An 18-seater bus was found at the scene and three people were rescued. A search and rescue operation is still ongoing,” he confirmed.
