FG Strengthens Nigeria–UK Education Ties for Global-Standard Schools and Skills Growth

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to deepen education collaboration with the United Kingdom, aimed at expanding access to world-class learning, boosting skills development, and attracting foreign investment into Nigeria’s education sector.

This was disclosed during a meeting between a delegation from the UK Department for Business and Trade and officials of the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the government is prioritising the establishment of reputable international-standard schools within Nigeria to reduce the need for overseas study while ensuring access to globally competitive education.

He noted that Nigeria’s large population and increasing demand for quality education present significant investment opportunities, particularly in major cities such as Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Kaduna. According to him, ongoing policy reforms are designed to create a more enabling and investor-friendly environment within the sector.

The Minister also highlighted recent progress in education delivery, including increased school enrolment and the expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, alongside initiatives such as free technical education and stipends for trainees.

The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad, stressed the importance of sustained international partnerships in strengthening Nigeria’s education system and improving outcomes across all levels.

The engagement is part of a broader Nigeria–UK framework covering school development, teacher training, and skills acquisition programmes designed to enhance workforce readiness and global competitiveness.
