A resident of Okinni, identified as Adeyanju, provided some context to the accident, explaining that the driver of the bus had collided with a commercial motorcyclist in the town. According to Elizabeth Arowosafe, the Head of Operations for the Osun Ambulance Scheme, they received the distress call at approximately 9:50 pm on Wednesday. She explained that the driver's decision to speed away after the initial collision in Okinni ultimately resulted in the tragic accident.

Arowosafe expressed her condolences and stated, "The driver, along with a lady and a male student, lost their lives in the fire. We were able to rescue 5 people, whom we rushed to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital in Osogbo. The hospital provided commendable care, to the extent that there was insufficient space to accommodate the injured individuals, and we had to leave one of our stretchers for their use."
