First NBA Basketball School in Africa to Open in Egypt

The first NBA Basketball School in Africa is set to open in Egypt in January 2025. This initiative was announced by NBA Africa and New Era Education, a Cairo-based provider of educational services and school administration.
Amadou Gallo Fall, the president of the Basketball Africa League, emphasized the NBA’s commitment to developing African players and expanding the sport across the continent. He stated, “We want to continue to also develop top talents on the continent through the partnership we have for example with the NBA academy we have an Elevate program that is producing elite talent.”

Fall further explained, “We want to make sure that the talents continue to lay in the league. And also attract top global talents and we want to make sure that Africa doesn’t only just remain a place where talents is always reported we want to build value in the talents on the continent and at the same time being able to retain some talents on the continent.”

The school will be located at Uppingham School Cairo in New Giza, offering year-round basketball development programs for children aged 5 to 18. According to the statement, the program will cover on-court training, skill development, and basketball education for all skill levels.
Mohamed Abdel-motaleb Soliman, Head of NBA Egypt, highlighted the significance of this initiative, saying, “The launch of Africa’s first NBA Basketball School is a significant milestone in our continued efforts to grow the game in Egypt and across the continent. This landmark initiative will provide Uppingham School Cairo students with the opportunity to learn the game the right way and progress their development under the guidance of NBA-selected coaches.”
