FMC Misau Celebrates 2026 Nurses Week with Community Outreach and Professional Development Activities

The Nursing Services Department of Federal Medical Centre Misau, under the leadership of its Head of Department, Malam Muhammad Aminu Adamu, organised a two-day programme to commemorate the 2026 Nurses Week celebration.

The event, held on 6th and 7th May 2026, commenced with a match past from the Centre to the Misau Emir’s Palace as part of efforts to celebrate the nursing profession and strengthen community engagement.

As part of the activities marking the celebration, a free medical outreach was conducted on 6th May 2026 at the Emir’s Palace for members of the Misau community. Services provided during the outreach included blood glucose testing, malaria screening, and visual acuity tests aimed at promoting early detection and improving access to basic healthcare services. About 200 beneficiaries, including men, women, and children, benefited from the exercise.

The celebration continued on 7th May 2026 at the Centre, where presentations were delivered on professional development, discipline, teamwork, and healthcare service delivery. During the programme, Nr. Ibrahim Muhammad presented a paper on professional discipline and teamwork.

In his welcome address, the Head of the Nursing Services Department, Malam Muhammad Aminu Adamu, appreciated the Management of the Centre and all participants for their support and commitment toward the success of the programme. He described the celebration as an opportunity to recognise the contributions of nurses to healthcare service delivery and to promote unity and professionalism within the profession.

While highlighting the significance of the event, the Provost of Mama Yalwa College of Nursing Sciences, Malam Bappa Baba Waziri, noted that this was the first time the Nursing Services Department of FMC Misau had organised such a celebration, describing it as a commendable development and a positive step toward promoting professional unity and recognition within the nursing profession.

Also speaking during the programme, the Deputy Provost of the College, Malam Abubakar Abdu Adamu, advised members of the nursing profession to remain committed to the ethics, dignity, and responsibilities of their profession through dedication and professionalism.

As part of the activities marking the celebration, the Nursing Services Department also presented awards to members of the TMC in recognition of their dedication, commitment, and support toward the advancement of nursing services and healthcare delivery at the Centre.

In his remarks, the Medical Director of FMC Misau, Dr. Rufai Abdu Dachi, commended nurses for their sacrifices, teamwork, and immense contributions to the growth and success of the hospital.

“As we celebrate this year’s Nurses Week, I wish to commend your sacrifices, teamwork, and invaluable contributions toward the growth and success of our hospital. Your role in promoting quality healthcare delivery cannot be overemphasized,” he said.

He further stated that, “Nurses remain the backbone of every healthcare system. Your commitment to patient care, comfort, safety, and recovery continues to inspire hope and confidence in our patients and their families. Day and night, in moments of joy and in times of difficulty, you stand at the frontline with courage, empathy, and resilience.”

The Medical Director encouraged nurses to continue upholding the noble ethics of the profession through dedication, kindness, continuous learning, and excellence in patient care. He reaffirmed Management’s commitment to supporting an enabling work environment that promotes professional growth and staff welfare.
