4 UNIABUJA Students Win Cash Prizes for Performing National Anthem in Guosa Language
Four students from the Department of Linguistics won cash prizes in the "Guosa National Anthem Voice Competition," part of the 2024 Annual Guosa Language Day celebration on UNIABUJA campus.
Four students from the Department of Linguistics at University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) have won cash prizes for their rendition of the Nigerian national anthem in the Guosa language during the "Guosa National Anthem Voice Competition," held as part of the 2024 Annual Guosa Language Day celebration on campus.
Praise Oloidi, a 200-level student, secured the first prize in the competition, while Precious Abah claimed second place. Pius Omowa and Mary Alao both tied for third place.
The Guosa Language evolutionist, Professor Alex G. Igbineweka, from the Guosa Educational, Scientific and Cultural Institute, Incorporated, Oakland, California, USA, was represented at the event by Ambassador Lilian Uju Ezenduka, Matron of the Guosa Language Community. In her address, she emphasized that Guosa is a created indigenous zonal lingua franca for Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), combining elements from major native languages such as Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Ga, Twi, Wolof, Bassa, and 490 other indigenous languages and dialects.
Professor Igbineweka appealed to the University of A's Guosa community to contribute to the language's development, noting its recognition as a zonal language project by international academic institutions across the West African region.
