FUL Governing Council Seeks Royal Blessing from Maigari of Lokoja at Inaugural Meeting
In a gesture of respect and collaboration, the Governing Council of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), led by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, visited the Maigari of Lokoja, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV, earlier today.

The visit, part of their inaugural activities, was aimed at seeking the traditional ruler's royal blessings as the new council prepares to embark on its mandate.
During the courtesy visit, Senator Ndoma-Egba, a former Senate Majority Leader and ex-Board Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), conveyed the council’s intention to inform the Maigari of their arrival and seek his blessings before proceeding with their inaugural meeting. The visit was a symbolic gesture to honor the traditional leadership and to foster a strong relationship between the university and the local community.
Senator Ndoma-Egba expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and the existing cordial relationship between the Maigari of Lokoja and FUL’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi. He highlighted the positive interactions observed between the traditional ruler and the Vice-Chancellor since his arrival in Lokoja, underscoring the collaborative spirit that benefits the university and the community.
The Pro-Chancellor also praised the Vice-Chancellor and his management team for their dedicated efforts in transforming the university. He commended the staff and students for their cooperation and resilience amid the challenges associated with the university’s relocation to its permanent site.
The visit also addressed longstanding issues related to the university’s land title documents and compensation payments to the host community. The Maigari of Lokoja assured the Governing Council that he had already initiated discussions with the Governor to resolve these issues. He promised his unwavering support to the university and expressed optimism about finding a resolution to the outstanding matters.
The visit concluded with a reaffirmation of the council’s commitment to working closely with the local traditional leadership and community to advance the university’s mission and address any challenges that may arise.
