FUL Inducts 52 Graduates into Teaching Profession
Federal University Lokoja (FUL) inducts 52 graduates into the teaching profession, with the Vice-Chancellor highlighting the importance of skilled educator training and future growth.
Federal University Lokoja (FUL) made history on October 2, 2024, by inducting 52 graduates from the Faculty of Education into the teaching profession during its maiden professional induction ceremony. Held at the Multipurpose Hall in Felele, the event marked the beginning of a new chapter for these graduates as they embarked on their careers as certified educators.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of FUL, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, expressed his pride in the achievement, acknowledging the dedication of the 52 inductees. He emphasized the University’s commitment to producing skilled educators, noting that while only a portion of the graduating class was being inducted, many other graduates had already been certified through the National Certificate in Education (NCE) program.
Prof. Akinwumi projected that the number of inductees would continue to grow, with over 1,200 student-teachers currently undergoing a six-month teaching practice. “The number may seem small today, but it is a symbol of the great strides we are making in teacher education. The future induction ceremonies will see even greater participation,” he stated.
While celebrating the inductees, Prof. Akinwumi did not shy away from addressing the challenges facing teacher training, particularly the reluctance of students to pursue education courses. He outlined FUL’s plans to revolutionize its teaching methods, particularly through ICT-driven pedagogy, and revealed the construction of a multimedia micro-teaching laboratory aimed at enhancing hands-on training for future teachers.
“These 52 graduates represent the future of our education system,” Prof. Akinwumi said, addressing the audience. “As they step into the classrooms across the nation, they carry with them not only the knowledge and skills acquired here at FUL but also the responsibility to shape the next generation.”
The ceremony was also graced by representatives of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), who echoed the Vice-Chancellor’s sentiments. Dr. Okunola Abimbola, who represented the TRCN Registrar, Dr. Josiah Ajiboye, urged the new teachers to take pride in their profession and to recognize the critical role they play in society.
With the induction of these 52 graduates, FUL continues its mission to elevate the teaching profession, laying a strong foundation for a more robust and dynamic education system in Nigeria.
