FULafia Joins Nasarawa State in World AIDS Day 2024 Celebration

The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) collaborated with stakeholders within and outside Nasarawa State to mark World AIDS Day 2024, themed "Take the Right Path." The event aimed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and promote community health.
FULafia's involvement was led by its Centre for Local Economic Development (CLED) and the Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine. Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Partnerships, Professor Usman Samila Dakyes, highlighted the importance of eliminating the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS. He reaffirmed the university's commitment to public health education and partnerships to address health challenges.
The Executive Director of the Nasarawa State AIDS Control Agency (NASACA), Dr. Ruth Nabe-Bello, called for collective efforts to eradicate HIV/AIDS and honor those who have lost their lives to the virus. She reported over 2,000 new cases in the state and encouraged infected individuals to enroll in the state government’s health insurance scheme.
