FULafia Partners with PARTNER for Peace-Building and Crisis Response

The Nasarawa State Independent Peace Committee, led by Rev. Fr. Tanko Hosea, recently visited the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) to explore avenues for preventing conflicts and enhancing early crisis response mechanisms.

This delegation included members of Peace Action for Rapid and Transformative Nigerian Early Response (PARTNER), who are collaborating on the PARTNER project, sponsored by the USAID. The project's goal is to foster early warning and early response, promote peace-building, and enhance social cohesion in Nigeria.

Speaking on the initiative, Rev. Fr. Tanko Hosea highlighted Nigeria's security challenges, emphasizing the need for unity, cohesion, stability, peaceful coexistence, and inclusive development for all citizens.

The PARTNER project is set to be implemented across various states, including Kano, Plateau, Katsina, Kogi, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, and Zamfara.

Hosea emphasized the pivotal role of educational institutions like FULafia in nurturing a mindset of peace within society.

Osariemen Amas-Edobor echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of universities in the early warning program of their organization.

In response, the Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, extended a warm welcome to the delegation and expressed gratitude for selecting both the state and the University as beneficiaries of the program. He underscored the crucial role of peace in societal progress, emphasizing that nothing can be successfully achieved without it.

The Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Professor Aleruchi Chuku, commended the team's decision to visit the university and affirmed the institution's commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to promote and uphold peace.
