FULafia V-C espouses significance of MLS

Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) seeks to collaborate with the Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (MLSN) in the areas of research and training of students and capacity building of staff, myschoolnews Report. 

The Vice-Chancellor of FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, stated so when the executive members of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (MLSN), led by its Nasarawa State Branch Chairman, MLS Amos John, paid him a courtesy visit, at his office in Lafia.

Abdul Rahman, who was delighted by the visit, said that he was happy to meet with the MLSN officials to discuss partnership between the association and FULafia.

The vice-chancellor told the MLSN members that the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital has been upgraded to a teaching hospital for the University, pointing out that, soon, the teaching hospital would become operational.

He said that the University Management takes welfare of workers very serious so as to enhance their productivity, pointing out that, promotion of staff are done as at when due.

The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria is a non-governmental, is a non religious, nonpartisan and not for profit civic professional organisation. 

Its purpose is to further the public interest by encouraging the study, advancing and improving the practice of medical laboratory science.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation, MLS John, said that the association was at the vice-chancellor's office to appreciate him for the giant strides recorded by the University under his leadership.

He described the vice-chancellor as a visionary leader with great dream for the future, a silent achiever whose work speaks loudly in the public. 

John said that the profession of medical laboratory science is a noble one, known globally for service delivery, research, teaching and control of infectious diseases all over the country, and the world at large. 

He said that medical laboratory scientists played a very significant role during the COVID-19 pandemic in "diagnosis, control and management of all infectious diseases."

He applauded Abdul Rahman for giving the MLS the desired attention by appointing more academic and non academic staff in the department and making sure it was accredited both by its professional body and the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Other members of the MLSN delegation who were at the event included the Deputy Provost, College of Medicine, FULafia, Prof. S.A. Junaid, Dr Ndubuisi John, MLS J. Samson, MLS Alu, MLS Steven Dauda, MLS Celestina, MLS Musa Abisabo.
