Fulafia VC Abdul Rahman urges collaboration with NASS members

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, has visited Distinguished Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, with a call for collaboration between the University and its critical stakeholders for purposes of development, myschoolnews Report.

The visit took place at the office of Onawo, at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly (NASS) Complex in Abuja.  

Accompanied on his visit by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Ali Shugaba, Registrar, Nuradeen Abdu, Bursar, Daniel Wilson, Head of Department of Business Administration, Jibrin Agabi, and his Personal Secretary, Bashir Ozomata, the vice-chancellor said that an institution such as the University he heads needs the support of critical stakeholders to overcome its challenges.

Abdul Rahman described Onawo and his colleagues at the Senate as huge assets of the University whose friendship must be respected by the University. 

He said that in as much as the University works hard to live up to the expectations of the state and its people, the need to involve the senators cannot be overemphasised.

“He said that we have identified you as assets and we have come here to say that we really appreciate your support for our University,” said Abdul Rahman.

Emphasising the importance of team work, he said that since his assumption of office, he has deployed many means to attract and use resources in the interest of the University, adding that the University was founded on the values of excellence, integrity and innovation.

He, therefore, called for closer relationship with the National Assembly members from the state, appealing to them to graciously play their roles in the process of developing the University.

He said that under his watch, the University was able to manage resources judiciously, adding that his efforts were focused on building the institution ti become among the best.

He said that the University was doing well in the area of e-learning, adding that the development has enabled the University to make its admission status up to date.

He called on the senators to assist the University improve its e-learning programme with a view to covering all areas and boosting network connectivity in the University.

He said that e-learning has also enabled the University to engage notable experts away from the University to deliver lectures for the benefit of the students through the Google Classroom. 

Abdul Rahman revealed that students in the Permanent Site Campus of the University would soon begin enjoying free internet access as efforts were underway to lay fibre optics.

He also stated that the University has commenced computer based examinations for some courses, adding that “computer based testing is now the way to go.”

“The University needs your support and interventions because you are among our foremost and influential stakeholders whose contributions to the development process of the University can never be ignored.”

Speaking, Senator Onawo expressed his happiness with the vice-chancellor’s visit, saying that “I’m happy to receive this August visit in September.”

He said that “FULafia is a University that is very close to my heart and I’m happy to see its development under your leadership.”

Onawo described Abdul Rahman as a team player, praising him for introducing the e-learning programme in the University.

He promised to rally his colleagues in the National Assembly to effectively support the University to attain greater heights.

He said: “We are not going to leave the burden on you alone, we will support, we will help to make the University develop.”

He promised that he and his colleagues would do all within their power to ensure that issues raised by the vice-chancellor get the desired attention through the legislative process.

Onawo promised to, personally, donate 400 computers to the University to aid the University in its e-learning programme.
