Fulafia Vice Chancellor spoke when he declared open a one-day workshop for students leaders which took place at the Permanent Site Campus of the University.

He admonished the youth leaders to build relationships, inspire and lead positive change, think critically and be accountable to their people. 

Represented by Professor Ilemona Adofu the Director of Academic Planning of FULafia, the vice-chancellor thanked the resource persons for coming to impact positive leadership skills on the youth of the University.

In his welcome address, the Head of the Staff Productivity Promotion Unit of FULafia, Dr Abdulkarim Alhassan, thanked the vice-chancellor for initiating the idea of the training and hosting the event. 

He urged the students to pay attention to the resource persons and learn lessons from the training 

Speaking on the topic: "Demand and Expectations from Leaders,”Dr Usman Ibrahim, the Provost and CEO, Samaru College of Agriculture, Division of Agricultural Colleges, ABU, Zaria, told the participants that as leaders, there were many complexities of the social environment that they were expected to solve, hence, the need for them to develop capacities through trainings.

 

He listed some of the characteristics of a good leader to include decisiveness, trustworthiness, empowerment of others, ability to communicate clearly, mediate during conflict, implement strategy, lead from the front and and resilience.

In his presentation, Comrade Suleiman Bukar, a former president of Students Union Government of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, commended the vice-chancellor of FULafia for organising a training for the students leaders, calling on the students to utilise the knowledge they have acquired from the training for their betterment and service to their members.

He advised the leaders to avoid unnecessary confrontations with authorities and be diplomatic in their engagements.

The Registrar of the University, Malam Nuradeen Abdu, while delivering the closing remarks, expressed the University's gratitude to the resource persons, saying that the University would continue to collaborate with them on future trainings.

Also speaking on behalf of the students leaders, the President of the Student Representative Council, Comrade Idris Shu’aibu Abdullah, used the occasion to thank the vice-chancellor and his Management members for taking special interest in their welfare, saying that the training was one of the many gains of the students under the leadership of Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman.
