The Faculty of Social Sciences at Federal University Lokoja will host its inaugural national conference focused on governance and socio-economic issues affecting citizens' welfare from September 9th to 12th, 2024.
The Faculty of Social Sciences at Federal University Lokoja (FUL) is set to host its inaugural national conference from September 9th to 12th, 2024, focusing on the theme "Governance and Socio-Economic Challenges: Implications on Citizens’ Welfare in Nigeria." The conference will address critical issues such as poverty, unemployment, and the impact of poor governance on citizens’ well-being, inviting researchers to submit well-researched papers on a variety of related sub-themes.
Concept Note:
Nigeria faces a multitude of governance and socio-economic challenges that significantly impact its development and citizens’ welfare. The nation struggles with high poverty and unemployment rates, skyrocketing inflation, and a rising cost of living. Many Nigerians lack access to safe drinking water and sanitation, and insecurity and food crises are widespread. Climate change and conflict disproportionately affect the poor, exacerbated by poor leadership and governance. The decline in state capacity and the failure of leaders to address systemic risks are major challenges.
