The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has launched a one-month intensive training programme in solar technology for 100 students of the College of Engineering (COLENG).

The training, which commenced on September 22, 2025, is being coordinated by the Directorate of Works and Services in partnership with Messrs Eauxwell Nigeria Ltd., facilitators of the University’s 3MW Solar Plant Project awarded by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

Speaking at the programme, the immediate past Director of Works and Services, Engr. Olawole Akinyele, explained that the initiative was designed to give students hands-on experience and practical expertise in solar technology, preparing them for careers in the growing renewable energy sector.

To ensure full participation, the students were divided into two batches of 50 each. Every batch will undergo two weeks of training, with sessions scheduled in morning (9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) and evening (4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.) shifts to avoid clashes with academic activities.

The programme reflects FUNAAB’s commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions while also supporting REA’s goal of building youth capacity in sustainable energy.

At the end of the training, participants are expected to demonstrate strong theoretical knowledge and practical skills in solar energy systems, equipping them to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s renewable energy drive.
