FUNAAB Commends FG's Agricultural Initiatives, Expresses Readiness for Collaboration

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), under the leadership of Pro-Chancellor Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi Odundun IV, has lauded the Federal Government's recent strides in agricultural mechanisation. The university expressed eagerness to collaborate with the government to advance these initiatives aimed at bolstering food production nationwide.

The Governing Council of FUNAAB, led by His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi Odundun IV, commended the Federal Government for its significant efforts in agricultural mechanisation. The Pro-Chancellor highlighted recent approvals by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), including the acquisition of 2,000 tractors, 4,000 disc ploughs, and 1,200 tractor-trailers. These acquisitions form part of the National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme (NAMP), aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's emergency declaration on food security.

In a statement, Oba Abdur-Rasheed emphasized the strategic importance of these initiatives in enhancing Nigeria's food security landscape. He underscored FUNAAB's readiness to collaborate closely with the Federal Government, citing the university's mandate in Teaching, Research, and Extension Services as well as its commitment to advancing agricultural development and innovation.

"FUNAAB stands prepared to partner with the Federal Government in these crucial agricultural endeavours," stated Oba Abdur-Rasheed. The Pro-Chancellor, also serving as the 8th Pro-Chancellor of the university, affirmed FUNAAB's dedication to playing a pivotal role in Nigeria's agricultural sector through academic excellence, research initiatives, and community engagement.
