UDUS Students Battle Mosquitoes, Health Concerns Amidst Academic Pursuits
Students at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) are facing a daunting challenge in their academic pursuits as they battle with mosquitoes and other health concerns on campus.
Despite the university's reputation for academic excellence, students are struggling to find conducive environments for studying due to the overwhelming presence of mosquitoes in lecture halls and hostels.
Muheebudeen Logun Hussein Al-Amin, a 300-level law student, expressed his frustration, stating that the mosquitoes have made it impossible for him to study in the ETF3 and FAIS lecture halls, forcing him to limit his night studies to only the day before his exams.
Other students, including Gbolahan Badru, a 400-level law student, and Isiaka Zainab, a 300-level political science student, shared similar experiences, highlighting the use of makeshift repellents, such as wearing water nylons and thick socks, to ward off the mosquitoes.
The mosquito infestation has also led to health concerns, with some students reporting cases of malaria. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mosquitoes are responsible for spreading malaria, a life-threatening disease that affects millions worldwide.
Students are calling on the university administration to take immediate action to address the issue, including fumigating the campus and providing a conducive learning environment.
The university's management has yet to comment on the matter. However, students remain hopeful that their concerns will be addressed, and they can focus on their academic pursuits without the added burden of battling mosquitoes and health concerns.
