FUNAAB Expands Agricultural Initiatives with Large-Scale Pepper Cultivation and Upcoming Pawpaw Harvest

The project covers six hectares, with 5,000 Habanero and 1,000 Bell Pepper seedlings planted, advancing the university’s commitment to agricultural revitalization.

On September 10, 2024, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, visited the prepared farmland and praised the progress. He commended the dedication of the FUNAAB Integrated Ventures (FIV) team, led by Director Mr. Olufisayo Amubode, for their role in the project’s success. Prof. Kehinde emphasized the importance of innovative agricultural practices, stating, “This collaboration with Musarchy Farms positions FUNAAB as a leader in the agricultural sector, both locally and internationally.”
The Greenhouse designated for the cultivation of Bell Pepper
Mr. Amubode highlighted the installation of a state-of-the-art irrigation system powered by an 86-metre deep borehole to ensure water availability during dry spells. Plans are underway to expand the cultivated land from six to 13 hectares, allowing for increased crop production.

Additionally, FUNAAB will begin the harvest and sale of pawpaw from its Dwarf Pawpaw Plantation by mid-October 2024. Both the pepper cultivation and pawpaw harvest mark significant milestones in FUNAAB’s mission to boost food security and economic growth in Nigeria.
