FUNAAB Matriculates 4,324 Students, Urges Aspirations Beyond Limits

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), held its annual Matriculation Ceremony on February 28, 2024, officially welcoming 4,324 students into the academic community for the 2023/2024 Academic Session. The event underscored the importance of ambition and responsibility in academic pursuits.

Addressing the matriculating students, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, emphasized the solemnity of the occasion, noting that matriculation signifies not only admission but also a commitment to abide by the University’s rules and regulations. He stressed the significance of compliance, stating firmly, “Anyone who does not sign the Matriculation register is not our student.”

Prof. Kehinde outlined the University’s expectations, urging students to familiarize themselves with guidelines regarding campus infrastructure and dress codes. He highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance pedestrian safety and encouraged students to utilize designated walkways, citing the high vehicular movement within the campus.

Moreover, Prof. Kehinde reiterated the University’s zero-tolerance policy towards anti-social behavior and improper attire, warning of disciplinary measures for violators. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding academic excellence and fostering a conducive learning environment.

The University’s 11th Commencement Lecture, titled “No Limit,” was delivered by Mr. Theophilus Adewale Onadeko, a seasoned Finance and Agribusiness Executive. Mr. Onadeko urged matriculating students to aspire beyond conventional boundaries, encouraging them to set ambitious goals and pursue them with determination. He emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with positive influences and rejecting limiting beliefs, particularly the notion that success can only be achieved overseas.

Mr. Onadeko underscored the need for collective action to improve Nigeria’s prospects, urging students to embrace their role in nation-building. He called on them to transcend socioeconomic barriers and take ownership of their futures, admonishing against social vices and advocating for excellence.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Onadeko reminded students that their achievements would bring pride to both their families and the University, inspiring a renewed sense of purpose among the matriculating students.
