Gombe State University Hosts Second Professor Abdullahi Mahadi Annual Memorial Lecture
The event, attended by academics, dignitaries, and university members, was held in honor of the late Professor Abdullahi Mahadi, the institution’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor and distinguished scholar.
Gombe State University (GSU) hosted the Second Professor Abdullahi Mahadi Annual Memorial Lecture at the Haruna Kadir Rasheed Hall (New Multipurpose Hall) on 10th December 2024. The event, attended by academics, dignitaries, and university members, was held in honor of the late Professor Abdullahi Mahadi, the institution’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor and distinguished scholar.
The lecture, titled *"Leadership Values for Nigeria's Transformation,"* was delivered by globally renowned historian, Professor Toyin Falola, from the University of Texas at Austin. In his address, Professor Falola extolled Professor Mahadi as a visionary leader whose legacy of excellence continues to inspire future generations.
Professor Muhammed Gurama Dukku, Chairman of the GSU Ceremonies Committee, provided an overview of the memorial lecture's objectives and significance. Professor Umaru A. Pate, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, who chaired the occasion, emphasized the importance of reflecting on Professor Mahadi’s immense contributions to academia and leadership.
Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, Acting Vice-Chancellor of GSU, expressed his gratitude to Professor Falola for delivering the lecture and reiterated the university's commitment to celebrating excellence and preserving Professor Mahadi’s legacy.
Representing Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, praised Professor Mahadi’s extraordinary leadership and encouraged academics to continue engaging with society for the collective benefit.
Major General Isa Mahadi Abdullahi, the eldest son of the late professor, spoke on behalf of the Mahadi family, expressing gratitude to GSU, the Gombe State Government, and the university community for honoring his father’s memory. The family also announced a donation to support students with disabilities at the university.
In his vote of thanks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) acknowledged the Mahadi family, the guest lecturer, and all attendees for their contributions to the success of the event, highlighting the continued impact of Professor Mahadi’s legacy.
