The appointment of Mr. Awobifa was disclosed in a press release issued by the University's Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, on the same day. According to Adesoji, the appointment was sanctioned by the Governing Council, the apex decision-making body of UNIOSUN, during its special meeting on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

The release highlighted the circumstances surrounding the appointment, noting that the University had initiated the selection process for the Registrar, Bursar, and Librarian positions on Monday, November 27, 2023. However, due to the expiration of Mr. Shittu's tenure, an acting Registrar was deemed necessary to prevent any administrative vacuum.

Before assuming his new role, Mr. Awobifa served as the Director of Advancement at UNIOSUN since March 1, 2016. He brings extensive experience to the position, having joined the university's service in January 2008 and rising through the ranks to become Deputy Registrar in March 2017. His tenure has been marked by active participation in various university committees, including serving as the Chief Confidential Secretary in the UNIOSUN Project Office planning and implementation committee.
