FUNAAB, Musarchy Farms Achieve Milestone in 7-Hectare Cassava Project
The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) and Musarchy Farms have commenced a large-scale harvest and sales of cassava cultivated on a 7-hectare plot, marking a significant milestone in the university's pursuit of agricultural revitalization, sustainable food production, and agribusiness innovation.
The cassava project is a flagship of FUNAAB's industry-focused collaborations, demonstrating the power of research-based agriculture and strategic partnerships. The project has recorded impressive yields and financial returns, reflecting the university's commitment to bridging the gap between science, policy, and practice.
The harvest has yielded significant tonnage, with two 30-tonne trucks of freshly harvested cassava loaded and bound for the market. This achievement underscores FUNAAB's position as a hub of agricultural innovation in Nigeria, driving the vision of food security, job creation, and sustainable enterprise.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, emphasized that the collaboration with Musarchy Farms exemplifies the university's core mission of deploying scientific research to tackle real agricultural challenges and improve livelihoods. The project promotes knowledge transfer between academia and the private sector, reinforcing the importance of synergy between universities and the private sector in driving agricultural development.
The project aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). As FUNAAB and Musarchy Farms continue to expand their collaborative frontiers, the project stands as a compelling case study of how partnerships can power Nigeria's journey toward agricultural self-reliance and prosperity.
